The outreach program organized by the CAS3MC, together with Mr. Dante Peralta, was to go to Mama’s Hope Haven of Norway located at Pag-Asa St. Navarro, General Trias. The place was an adoption for elderly people and orphans. The project started on October 15, 2011 at around 1pm.

When all of the seats and food were prepared for the project, the elders were assisted by some of the trainee caregivers to the Haven’s chapel. The program was hosted by Marc Villaluna and he started it off with an opening prayer lead by Jan Carlo Basuil and opening remarks by Mr. Dante. Each student was assigned to a few number of elders to associate with, make them comfortable and just to know each other. The music was turned up with the music from their time. Some were singing along but one aged got up dancing to an upbeat rhythm, so a few of them also got to dancing. When some of them got tired of the singing and dancing, it was Marc’s cue to feed them with pancit, fried chicken, and puto made by his mother, Ellen Quintin. The students passed them around, making sure each gets one. With the help of the trainees, the aged were made sure to eat comfortably.

The program was ended early because the students were advised that elders tend to get bored easily and they can’t play the games that they got planned because of their situations. They ended it by sharing their heart-felt messages to the aged and gave some grooming kits, apples, and donated clothes as tokens of appreciation for welcoming them into their lives.

Wearing their CAS jerseys proud, Gretchen Eroles (playing coach), Ymari Obtina, Mikee Vitug, Joy Noche, Jashi Reyes, Nicole Baybayan, Nicole Ballesteros, Riri Fukuda, and Mariel Raña all did their drills: dig pass, spike-receive, and service before the game starts

Their first opponent was the Forces which was last year’s defending champion and the pressure on the CAS girls are building up as they tried so hard to win. The scores are always so close. The first set was won by the Forces but the CAS didn’t give up and they snagged the second set. The final set was intense. It came to the point that both tied to 24 points which means either of the team needs to get 2 point consecutively to win. It was CAS’ turn to serve, which the opponent wasn’t able to receive, a point for CAS. It was again their turn to serve. This time the Forces didn’t attempt to get the ball, thinking that it would go outside the line, but they were wrong. CAS won their first game and closed it by shaking hands with the opponent, showing sportsmanship.

Some were expecting it while some weren’t totally prepared. The preparation for the Campus Look was contradicting the candidates’ intramurals, like the cheering rehearsals and the sports practice. There was no time for them collect votes from people and to practice their talents. “Tatapusin ko lang ‘tong intrams. After this, mag-collect na ko ng votes para matapos na ang lahat. Hindi ko naman talaga alam kung bakit ako nasangkot dito sa Campus Look na ito,” says Ymari, trying to hold back laughter.

The signature campaign was the hardest to accomplish. Each vote or signature is equal to 1 peso. In other words, the candidates need to collect money from people and have them sign their campaign sheets for every peso they collect. In order to reach the 3000 pesos quota, they worked hard, embraced their confidence, and asked help from friends in other schools. The talent was another concern of the candidates. Jessica practiced hers in between rehearsals of cheering. Some practiced somewhere the other contestants wouldn’t see them. Some practiced on the spot of the pre-pageant. Some had trouble with their voice, like Arianne, because she’s lost her voice before the pre-pageant because of the strenuous practicing for her talent which was singing.

The candidates were very happy that the Campus Look 2011 was finally over. But to others, it only means that they have now to face their other responsibilities that they’ve left for a while. It also means that next year, they will not be stressing about being a candidate anymore.

Themed with Angry Birds, Sebastinian Community once again celebrated their Intramurals on September 12 at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite High School department gymnasium.

The celebration started with the parade of the different departments wearing their jerseys. Each department has a muse and escort to represent them whom walked in front of their team. The parade started at P. Burgos Avenue, making it a happy and lively one with a marching band making music and assisted and secured by the College of Criminology and PNP while we paraded to the gym.

Upon arriving, the different teams settled in their designated area of the gym facing the crowds who cheered loudly for them. the muses and escorts each tied their banners on the small platform to be displayed all throughout the week.

All in all, the members of the community are very happy and active to represent their college. BRAVO BASTE!!

This PR plan is a competition between the 90 or 70 grade. Meaning, whoever gets the highest grade between the two groups gets the 90 grade and the lowest automatically gets the 70 grade. The said 4 students fight to defend their PR plan although their PR plan has got too many questions from the panel, making it obvious that the group wasn’t totally prepared for the defense.

But eventually, the group miraculously got the golden 90 grade.

The third year mass communication students of San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite will be conducting an outreach program in Mama’s Hope of Norway on October 15 which would start at 1 pm. They are now preparing a presentation for the elderly people and some of the other concerns in our program like the food, the kits, session, etc.

They will give love and care to the elderly people of the said foundation. Although this project for developmental communication has faced many problems, CAS3MC did not stop to pursue this project. Supposedly the original plan of the project is that this will be in cooperation with the outreach office of under Sir Pao. But because of the lack of time to process it, they didn’t go on with the original plan.

With the help of Ms. Ellen Quintin, Marc Villaluna’s mother, on food and Mr. Feliciano Angeles, Jozel Angeles’ father, on transportation, they CAS3MC didn’t give up on continuing and finishing this project.

September 17, 2011 around 5 pm, all the college students (including the participants), faculties, deans and other employees of San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite were gathered at the SSC-R high school department gymnasium to watch the Cheering Competition, the much awaited event for Intramurals 2011.

The said competition is the finale for Intrams 2011. The participants were from different departments of SSC-R dC such as, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the College of Nursing (NARS), Human Resource Development Management Association and Junior Philippine Institute of Accountancy (Controllers), and for and Council of Young Hoteliers and Restaurateurs of the Philippines (Front Liners), Federation of Organized Council of Engineering Students (FORCES), Junior Philippine Computer Society (ICONS).

Each participant was given 5 minutes on the blue mat for the blockings. When all were done, first to perform were the Controllers, then the NARS, followed by the Front Liners, then the Icons, followed by the Forces, and finally CAS. The Front Liners got the 3rd place, the Controllers was in 2nd place and Icons bagged the 1st place.

Each group of performers gave their all with their fellow classmates to support and cheer for them.

Test anxiety!

This usually occurs during the period of examination week in which the students of San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite are now preparing to take their final examinations from October 11-14. Some students are not only busy reviewing their notes in different subjects, but are also preparing for their thesis defense. Some students are still having troubles on the payment of their tuition fees because teachers are not allowed to give students their final exams. And so, their clearance will not be signed, resulting that they’ll not be able to enroll next semester.

According to Wikipedia, there are two types of test anxiety: anticipatory anxiety and situational anxiety. Most people feel some anticipatory anxiety before a test. This is when studying or thinking about an upcoming exam and feeling some nervousness or tension about taking the test. Situational anxiety occurs when you are actually taking a test or exam and begin to experience the physiological effects of anxiety or a panic attack.

Some students feel these types of test anxiety. To handle this, it is better to take a few minutes, and calm themselves. Hold on to that sense of calmness while taking the test.

A final examination is also the final step for the much awaited semester break. Because of this, the third year students are already making plans for the two-week vacation whether going out for a trip to the Mall of Asia or a trip to Star City or just hanging out in one of their houses. Because after the 5 months of preparations, studying, and activities, finally is the end of Academic year 2011-2012 1st semester and is at its peak with the students from all colleges sharing one sentiment and that is to pass the Finals.

Posted By: Hannah Mae Angue

CAS3MC Holds on to Pressure

Being a college student will never be that easy. This is the time when students will encounter different types of stress such as academic performance pressure, financial problems, and multitasking stress. These are some of the stress that might be encountered be by a college student. But, of course, there are also lots of good things from being a college student. If they work hard, they will benefit from it.

“It’s okay. The pressure we feel is normal because as a mass communication student it’s part of our training to be flexible and to manage our time well,” says Jozel Ruth Angeles. She takes the pressure as an advantage to be prepared for the future when they are already working. “Nakaka-pressure, super stress, but at the same time it’s a challenging and learning experience,” Marc Armel Villaluna, Third Year’s only Dean’s Lister so he’s having the extra pressure of maintaining high grades if he’s to graduate a cum laude. He’s handling it well.

And according to Ymari Obtina, a 3rd year student also of mass communication, “sobrang nakaka-stress, lalo na sa side ko kasi sumali ako ng Campus Look (event in mass communication) so, hindi ko nauna ‘yung Development Communication, Introduction to Mass Communcation Theories and Models, at Pr Plan. Kaya lahat ‘yan sobrang cramming ang nangyare. Tapos nakakakaba din sa Tax, kasi di ko masyadong napapasukan dahil sa sunud-sunod na excuses baka maibagsak ko.” Jan Carlo Basuil says “sobrang nakaka-stress and very nakakapagod at nakakakaba.” They’re still coping with the consecutive major subjects and fears failing even one of them.

These are the immediate responses of those 3rd year mass communication students, when asked to express their feelings out of the pressures due to the 4 consecutive activities, such as preparation for the Campus Look 2011, Development Communication project, PR Plan with an oral defense, Chapter 1 for research study also with an oral defense.

To be ready for the Campus Look Pre-Pageant on September 23, 2011, the candidates practiced their opening number and their ramps on the Mass Communication Laboratory each afternoon before the said event. They were taught by Riri Fukuda, the Chairman of the Campus Look, with her Co-Chairman Gretchen Eroles.

Fukuda and Eroles are well-trained models of Mr. Adrian Rios. The candidates are lucky to be trained by them. Each day they perfected their posture, walk and their attitudes on the stage. The candidates will showcase their talents on the pre-pageant at the College Auditorium of San Sebastian College- Recoletos de Cavite. The candidates are practicing their master piece each day as well, in their respective locations with their back-up or by themselves. They were also preparing for the big day in S.M City Rosario on October 3, 2011.

Last September 24 to October 2, the whole Sebastinian Communicators were busy for the crowning day of Campus Look of the Year 2011.

Riri Fukuda, the chairman of the event, was the one who set the specific days of practices for the candidates, but only some the girls show up during practice. On the last two days of practice, the candidates all showed up. Gretchen Eroles was assigned to teach the candidates how to walk properly on the catwalk. She showed them different poses and facial expressions to be used on the stage. She also choreographed the 4 modeling steps (production number, school wear, party dress, and formal wear) with the help of Jozel Angeles on the dance steps. Because of the inappropriate absences of the candidates during rehearsals, Gretchen made them repeat the steps from the top whenever one of them made a single mistake.

The Artist’s Guild, headed by Jan Carlo Basuil, was assigned on the stage design. They’ve made cut-outs of the designs on cartolinas and glossy papers in preparation for the said event. The production guild was responsible for the AVPs, sound systems, and lights. They also made a tarpaulin that was posted at the St. Ezekiel Moreno lobby and then later at the SM City Rosario. CAS4MC exerted an extra effort to make the sashes, plaques, IDs, and to find sponsors for the pageant.
